Task:
The task for this project entailed designing a magazine spread using InDesign. With creative freedom, students utilized grids, guides, and their imagination to create a ready-to-print magazine spread.
Challenges:
The biggest challenge of this project was the organization of the content in the design. Based on my sketches, I brainstormed multiple different versions of the layout but overestimated how much content could be arranged on a magazine spread without looking chunky.
Outcome:
In order to overcome these challenges I created many different versions of the composition before it finally looked 'right'. In order make up space I gave more attention to the statistics and tried to use visuals instead of text. In addition, I used a more balanced color theme in order to simplify the design. Using the design thinking technique, SCAMPER ( Substitute, Combine, Adapt, Modify/Magnify, Purpose, Eliminate, Rearrange/Reverse ) I was able to pick apart small aspects of my original design and modify them for a more organized piece.
