Task:
The task for this project was to build a non-linear optimization problem from scratch while providing a list of questions related to the problem created (similar to the textbook examples ). The problem had to be original related to your major and solved through the Microsoft Excel add-on Analytic Solver.
Challenges:
One of the largest challenges of this project was the inspiration leading up to the idea. The hardest part was in fact getting started and choosing a subject. I had already decided on a location problem; however relating the problem to the marketing field was difficult as most of the class examples were supply chain related. In order to stay within the non-linear criteria I went with a location problem related to advertising.
Outcome:
In order to overcome these challenges I had to brainstorm in multiple different pieces. Starting with the tpye of problem, to the setting of the problem, to Busboys and Poets as the theme of the problem. From there I was able to look at it from an analytical perspective. Brainstorming is a key role in any project and helps me as a visual learner see my thoughts together on paper!
